More stores

Monday, April 5, 2004

Dear Editor,

We have had many visitors from the west in our businesses since Mary Hurst wrote to the Open Forum stating that Arapahoe had two nice dress shops, I have come to realize that downtown Arapahoe might be one of the best kept secrets in Nebraska, so I would like to let people know what else Arapahoe has to offer.

We have a nice plumbing and heating shop that also offers major appliances. We have the two very nice dress shops, also a place to buy shoes and men's and children's clothing. There is a quilting shop above our well stocked modern grocery store. You also will find a large selection of crystal and china in one store along with hardware and paint, We have a wonderful pharmacy where you can enjoy a soda or sundae at an old fashioned soda fountain. You will find fine furniture and floor covering at our furniture store. We have three beauty shops where tanning and nails are also offered. We also have a barbershop. There is an excellent telephone and cable company in town.

We keep up on all the events happening in our community and school in our weekly newspaper. We have a very nice floral shop that also has a beautiful gift line and a new gift shop which opened recently. We are fortunate to have a nursery that opens in the spring with bedding plants and many beautiful flowers and hanging baskets. If you need a car or pickup, buy it in Arapahoe and you can keep your vehicle in tip-top shape at our repair and body shops. We have a thrift shop which is run by volunteers from one of our churches. For the farmers, we have a feed store and implement dealer.

For the leisure times, we have several eating establishments, a beautiful spacious park, swimming pool, tennis court, ball diamond, and golf course. I must not forget to tell you about our theater, that is run by volunteers, where you can buy a movie ticket for less than a large drink costs at a theater in a larger town.

If you are looking for a place to retire or raise your family, there's no place better than a small town. We are proud to have a Dr. and clinic, dentist and; physical therapist in town. We have a museum/ churches, a wonderful school system, a preschool, a gymnastic and dance studio, a library with the latest technology, a wonderful volunteer fire department, a fine bank, and an active senior center,

Arapahoe is striving to be a survivor when so many rural towns are seeing their main streets lined with empty buildings. We are working together to serve our town and surrounding area. Come and check us out, and you may have such a fine time, you will want to stay overnight at one of our motels.

Glenda Schutz
