Letter to the Editor

Another solution?

Monday, February 2, 2004

Dear Editor,

After enjoying Mr. Hendricks column today, I have a question or two.

Why couldn't the council list solutions they have to the water problem in the Gazette, including solutions from the public? Set a deadline for realistic solutions, then have the Gazette publish them for three business days.

Assign the solutions a number, then ask the city of McCook water department to prepare ballots and put them in with the citizens of McCook's water bills.

You claim a random sampling could be somewhat expensive, however, this would and could be everyone's chance to have their say, everyone that matters, the water customer.

No questions should arise from those thinking if a random sampling was done fairly, as this would give everyone who pays for water a real chance to express their opinion.

Although I too share in your opinion that "the letter" could open up our minds, it also causes some hurt to both parties that have obviously tried hard to develop a solution to a large problem.

To me it would be very important that all water customers be given a say. And one would assume that this would allow the City Council to rest easier and heal old wounds by knowing this was truly the peoples decision.
