Dundy County girls, boys fall at Oberlin Invitational
OBERLIN -- In a 7-5 overtime, the Dundy County girls basketball team opened the Oberlin Invitational Tourney Tuesday with a 40-38 loss to Quinter, Kan.
Atwood defeated Cambridge 44-38 and Hoxie cruised to an 80-51 win over St. Francis in the other opening-round games played Tuesday.
Dundy County will face the loser of the remaining first-round game, Resurrection Christian vs. Oberlin, which is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Oberlin gym.
Dundy County, 11-2 and ranked eighth in Class D-1 by the Omaha World-Herald, will play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the Oberlin junior high gym.
Atwood will face Hoxie at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the senior high, while Cambridge will play St. Francis at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the junior high gym.
On the boys side, Cambridge kept its undefeated streak alive with a 65-19 win over St. Francis, Quinter rolled to a 70-32 defeat of Atwood and Hoxie beat Dundy County 54-43.
Quinter (9-0) will play Hoxie in the semifinals Friday, while Atwood (2-8) will play Dundy County (7-3) in the consolation round.
Cambridge, 12-0 and ranked second in Class C-2 by the World-Herald, will play the Oberlin-Resurrection Christian winner.
St. Francis (3-7) faces the Oberlin-Resurrection Christian loser in the consolation bracket.
