Other factors

Dear Editor,

Another water issue opinion

Are the City Council members walking around with blinders on? Isn't time they all step back and take a look at the whole picture?

Have they thought about:

1. The high cost of drilling test wells on the two selected farms?

2. The cost, if it goes through, of drilling the actual well.

3. The cost of running pipe 20 plus miles (labor and the pipe).

4. The cost of pumping water 20 plus miles 24/7.

5. The cost of compensating all the landowners though you affect by running the pipe through their pastures, farmland and farmyards.

6. The cost to all the landowners who you are taking water from for their crops, animals and the people themselves.

7. The cost to all the people, especially the older ones on fixed incomes, to pay for all this. Take a look at the population of McCook.

The city made one terrible and very expensive decision on the old Army Air Base. Surely they won't make it two?

And, who do they make all the decisions? The people are the ones who should be the decision-makers, and not just in Red Willow County. What about Frontier County?

The people in Frontier County also are being affected. Shouldn't we have a say? All of us out here north love our homes, the quiet and the beauty. We certainly should have a say in having the city coming out here and disrupting our lives.

It appears it would be less of a hassle and much cheaper, after you look at the whole picture, to treat the water you already have. Let the people vote -- Red Willow County AND Frontier County.

It really makes no sense to upset so many people -- all the residents of McCook, all the farmers and ranchers north in between your test plots and McCook, and the landowners on either side of these test plots. If this continues, mcCook will suffer. Always remember, when the farmer and rancher are doing good, everybody benefits.

Doug and Joyce Samuelson,

concerned and affected

Frontier County Residents
