Letter to the Editor

Like Khruschev?

Tuesday, December 16, 2003

Dear Editor,

I am compelled to write another response to Tim Butz, the Nebraska Executive Director of the ACLU concerning his letter to the editor of 12-3 A.D. 2003.

Mr. Butz, as I reread your letter, I am reminded of the moment in the early '60s when Nikita Khrushchev, in the U.N. building, removed his shoe and began pounding it on the desk. He also uttered these infamous words, "We will bury you."

If Mr. Khrushchev would have taken the time to read the Holy Bible, he would have said "we will attempt to bury you" instead. Mr. Butz, your arms are too short to box with God.

I will give you two definitions that will be of great interest to you: The "Wrath of God" happens when God turns His back on you and leaves you to the consequences of your own devices. God turns His back on us after we turn our back on Him. God has never sent anyone to hell; we send ourselves to heaven or hell by our own choices. The only unforgivable sin is to continue to turn your back on God.

The phrase "hurt in church" is when you discover that the pastor and the whole congregation are only human and imperfect just like you are.

Sincerely,

George Anderson

McCook
