Inconsistencies

Tuesday, December 16, 2003

Dear Editor,

I am writing in regard to an article that was recently published in your paper about the dog caught in a trap.

I have trapped for many years and find some inconsistencies in the article. How does anyone know how long the dog was in the trap unless they seen the dog there everyday, and if so, why not release him?

If an animal was in a trap for that long, my guess is the damage would be worse than what was shown in the picture. How does anyone know that the trapper's tag did not come off and get buried in the dirt after the dog catch?

How did the boys all of a sudden know where to look for the trapped dog?

How did a national organization that is believed by the government to have links to homeland animal rights terrorist groups get involved in a small rural towns affairs?

I as well as many other thousands of trappers, would say for a fact that the dog was not in the trap for five days and the story sure seems one-sided and very biased.

If the trapper in question did break any laws then I know I speak for trappers as one when I say that he is not a TRAPPER but a violator of the laws, written and unwritten.

The story should have and could have been written more carefully once all the facts were in.

Whoever did this should be punished for breaking any laws. Such as not checking traps every 24-hour period, not tagging traps (if it's the case).

True trappers respect others' property and take great care not to catch pets. Also, dogs should not be allowed to run loose and chase wild game or cattle or run on others property either.

Thank You.
