Letter to the Editor

Local decision

Wednesday, December 10, 2003

Dear Editor,

When I woke up this morning and read the headline in the North Platte Telegraph about this nonsense that's come to my part of the world, I was appalled that someone would turn the Arnold Public School into the ACLU for prayer in our school. It made it harder to take this close to Christmas.

I am not a religious person, but I do believe in God, and as a parent with a child in the Arnold Public School System, I believe my child has the right to prayer in his school.

I would also like to point out that in these times of tight budgets and shrinking revenues, the last thing our school needs is the expense of defending itself against this senseless litigation and the consequences it will bring to our school and village.

I know as of this morning, I still live in democracy and I submit to you, John or Jane Doe, whomever you are, who filed this complaint, let's put the right to prayer in our school system to a vote.

I for one am willing to let the local people, not the ACLU, decide if prayer in our school system is right or wrong.

If you don't like it, move.

Bruce Forrester

Arnold
