Letter to the Editor

Appalling photo

Monday, November 3, 2003

Dear Editor:

After reading the Oct. 25 - 26 weekend edition of the Gazette, I felt a need to write.

I was appalled to find that your paper published such an article as the one which I am about to describe. I am referring to an article of "Pets of the Week."

Included are photos of three dogs and one kitten up for adoption at the local animal shelter. What is so disturbing it that the photo of the kitten includes a gun barrel pointed directly at the animal.

Is this how you advertise for an animal shelter? What were you thinking? Are we as readers of your paper to find this amusing? Not hardly.

In fact it is disgusting editing. When I as an adult am upset, how do you suggest this be explained to our children? What terrible poor taste your paper seems to have become.

Only after reading through the article does one find that the picture included is not even of the animal that is up for adoption. Just maybe the human on the other end who was responsible for deleting the correct picture need to think twice before printing such "improvised" pictures.

Again shame on each of your staff involved with the article.
