Letter to the Editor

Vote again

Friday, October 31, 2003

Dear Editor,

This letter is being written to clarify some issues about the Twin Valley/Republican Valley bond issue that have been unsaid or ignored up to this point.

First is the fact that even though Judge Battershell ruled in favor of the school in district court, this case will continue on in a higher court.

Some forget this bond passed by less than a 2 percent margin, which brings us to the reason for the suit. Our school boards deceived the public by putting forth a ballot that made the bond issue APPEAR equally divided between the two districts, when in fact, after we voted on equal bonds, they equalized the bonded indebtedness.

The board knew they could never pass the bond issue in both districts if they voted for about $4.2 million in TV and about $2.7 million in RV. Stating this fact before the vote could have very easily made up that 2 percent difference this bond passed by. If the equalizing of the bonds was so well-known about before the vote, why did they not then, in fact, place the real numbers on the ballot?

The people were deceived. All the school board would have to do to get this out of the court system is hand it back to the people in the form of a vote with the true numbers written on the ballot.

We feel we will win this battle in court and are still willing to put the issue back to the people. We hope this letter will encourage the school board to let the people decide how they want to fix this mess we are in. This could be over with in a matter of weeks if our school board would actually let the "voice of the people" be heard.

There would be no room left for any court action.

We want to inform the people of our efforts to get this over in a hurry. It is time for a public meeting to let the people decide how they want to put an end to this issue.

Encourage our school board to end this quickly, otherwise we will be battling this out in court over the next several years. The choice is yours.
