Hunting instincts

Thursday, October 23, 2003

Dear Editor,

With fall, many youth speak of hunting.

It is in our predator makeup to take from, and store up for the coming long winter months.

However since the poor are no longer allowed to hunt due to cost and lack of hunting grounds, the yard sale is a near year-round way to allow the rich to dump their stuff so they can buy new.

So many low-income people stay in a state of poverty trying to buy new stuff. they would never consider buying a new $30,000 car, but try to match the rich people buying new clothes and household items.

From auctions to private sales, the world is full of bargains. Keep your ears open and never offer a price to be paid. The seller quite often offers it for much less than you figured to pay.

My own standing rule of never paying over 15 percent of new price stands the test of time. Want an example? I bought a 1933 camp oven from a lady telling that they got it when they were first married and the apartment they lived in did not have an oven.

So they set this camp oven on top of the stove. The $2. price was right and we quite often need a second oven and now we have one.
