USMC birthday

Dear Editor,

Monday, Nov. 10 will be the 228th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. In 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the formation of two marine battalions. They made their first landing on the Bahamas in 1776 during the Revolutionary War and have been active in nearly every conflict since that time.

The U.S.M.C. has a strong tradition of celebrating its birthday with Marines and former marines.

Last year, we had a birthday party in McCook that was attended by 27 former marines, two active marines, plus friends and spouses. We plan to celebrate again and hope to add to our attendance from Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas.

We have made arrangements to have dinner at the Eagles Club in mcCook on Monday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. Plan to come at 5:30 p.m. if you want to socialize and tell stories. After dinner, we will have a speaker to deliver the commandant's annual message.

If you plan to attend, please call the Eagles Club directly to make your reservation (308) 345-6216. The $12 charge will cover the meal, birthday cake and rental. Call us if you have any questions.

Semper Fi,

Duane Tappe,

Dan Stramel

McCook
