McCook memory

Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Dear Editor,

A year ago, last May in 2002, we were traveling from our home here in Green Valley, Ariz., to our former home and family in Bismarck, N.D.

We usually stop overnight in your fair city. We arrived at the Best Western Motel around 6 p.m.

I was unloading our car trunk, as my husband is disabled. I noticed a noise and discovered the antenna motor continued to run, even with the car turned off.

Of course, we knew we'd soon have no battery power and we'd have to get it repaired.

Everyone seemed to be closed as it was after 6 p.m., so we asked at the service station up the street. A young man in there directed us to a nearby used car business and said perhaps they could help us.

It was McCorkle Motors Inc. on Eighth Street. We went there and fortunately found the whole family there. The two young men worked on our car for quite a long time to disconnect the motor without damaging other wires. When they were done, we asked what was owed -- they refused payment and said they were glad to help. We were so relieved to know we could be on our way again.

I have never forgotten the kindness and consideration your citizens gave us and I thought you and your city should know about it. Believe me, we shall always shout your amenities to all.

Again, our thanks to McCook, Nebraska, from:

Robert and Annella Campbell,

Green Valley, Ariz.
