Don't burn out yet

Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Dear Editor,

Fall is a time when most people have given up on yard sales.

Burned out they are, but for those die-hard few, fall is a great time, with many bargains. This last weekend, Culbertson had city-wide yard sales, plus an auction going on there. Makes for a full day, but turns $50 into over $300 worth of goodies.

Sure better than getting half-percent in my checking account. Beats monster discount store prices as well. Best buy for me? It was a 100-gallon heavy-duty tub for $20 to add to my rain barrels.

I also got permission to take some seed from flowers, from one of the yards, to grow some of those fancy plants myself.

Fall is a great time to collect seed for next spring. That will keep a good hundred bucks in your account next year instead of buying seed, or worse yet, plants. The river also has seed that can be free for the asking.

An hour on the river collecting seed can put many dollars in your pocket thanks to eBay.
