Dairy doing well now

Monday, January 7, 2002

Dear Editor,

We became acquainted with Neal, Chris and Clinton Sjoquist while they were living in McCook while they attempted to establish a dairy farm between Culbertson and Trenton in Hitchcock County. For those who knew them and wondered what happened to them, I would like to share the following from a Christmas letter we recently received from them.

"West Plains Dairy is finally a reality! Our first drop of milk was put into the tank on December 6th with 251 cows reporting for duty. We are at 400 now and will be at 900 by the end of next week, on our way to 2300. It has been a long hard struggle for the past two years with a lot of family separation because of traveling. The people of Scott City (Kansas) have been so welcoming to the dairy and to our family."

Regarding their son, Clinton, who attended school in McCook and played JV football while they lived here, they wrote the following. "Clinton is still going to school in Minnesota. He had a great season playing football. He took home the honors of defensive MVP, honorable mention all-conference, second team all area, and set a school record for fumble recoveries."

If anyone would like to contact the Sjoquists their address is 802 Kingsley, Scott City, KS 67871.

Sincerely,

George Young

McCook
