Dutoit, Kaiser, Houghtelling picked for NCA All-Star events

LINCOLN -- McCook's Krae Dutoit, a 5-foot-10 guard, and Chase County-Imperial's Ed Kaiser, a 6-3 guard, were named to the Red Team for the 2003 Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Boys Basketball Game.

The game will be played Wednesday, July 30 at Lincoln North High School.

Dutoit averaged 22 and 21 points a game the last two seasons for McCook and helped lead the Bison to a 21-6 record and a Class B state tournament appearance.

Kaiser averaged 22 points a game and helped lead the Longhorns to a 24-1 record and a second-place finish in the Class C-1 state tournament.

The duo was named Co-Players of the Year by the McCook Daily Gazette.

The All-Star girls game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game.

Cambridge's Christina Houghtelling, the Gazette's Player of the Year in Basketball and Volleyball, was named to the Red Team for the 2003 All-Star Volleyball Match Tuesday, July 29 at Lincoln North High School.

Houghtelling, a 6-2 middle hitter, will play volleyball at the University of Nebraska next season.

She is also a standout on the track and should be one of the favorites to win gold medals in high jump, long jump and triple jump in Class C.

In other NCA news:

- Area coaches to be recognized -- Two Arapahoe High School coaches will be honored at the 2003 NCA Awards and Recognition Banquet Aug. 1 at Lincoln.

Arapahoe wrestling coach Darrell Barnes and volleyball coach Richard Wilson are among 30 coaches who have served for 25 years at the high school level in the state of Nebraska.

Also to be honored at the banquet are state championship coaches for fall and winter sports.

McCook High School's Jeff Gross, who guided the Bison football team to a 13-0 record and the Class B state title, is among the honorees.

- Multi-Sports Clinic -- The NCA Multi-Sports Clinic is scheduled for July 30-Aug. 1 at Lincoln North High School.

McCook High School boys track coach John Gumb is slated to conduct a clinic called "Sprint Relay Philosophy and Technique" from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31.

Gumb brings 32 years of experience to this year's clinic.

During the past 15 years, Gumb's McCook squads won two Class B state titles and posted three runnerup finishes.

- Jeff Mollring submits name for NCA Board of Directors -- McCook High School's Jeff Mollring has expressed interest in joining the NCA Board of Directors in District V.

Participants in the 2003 Multi-Sports Clinic will vote on the new members during the clinic.

Mollring has been involved in coaching for 24 years in football, basketball and track and field at the high school level and track, basketball and wrestling at the junior high level.

"I have always had the interest in helping out in any way I could," Mollring stated in the latest edition of Nebraska Coach magazine.

"Now that my children are out of the home, I have the time it would take to do this job properly. I served on the boys track advisory board for one term and I enjoyed working with the people on the board.

"I have been in small schools and now a larger school, so I know what they go through. I feel I would be a good representative for District V."
