St. Francis girls track team places 3rd at NWKL meet

OBERLIN -- The St. Francis girls track team claimed third place at the Northwest Kansas League track meet Friday, scoring 87 points.

Oberlin placed fourth with 75 points, while Hoxie was sixth with 64 points.

The Colby girls won the team title with 124 points.

For the boys, Oberlin was the top area team with 63 points for fifth place. St. Francis followed with 54 points and sixth place and Atwood rounded out the standings with 24 points for eighth place.

Oakley secured the boys' team title with 136 points.

Emily Wolters of Atwood claimed two gold medals, finishing first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.32 seconds and the 300 meter low hurdles in 49.93 seconds.

Teammate Shannon Lowry won the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches.

Lori Faulkender of St. Francis won the triple jump with a total of 32 feet, 1/2 inch.

Oberlin's Abby Ream claimed the top spot in the javelin with a throw of 118 feet, 9 inches.

In the boys events, Atwood's Jeff Horinek won both the shot put and the discus with throws of 56 feet even and 190 feet, 1 inch, respectively.

David Eldridge of Oberlin crossed the finish line first in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 44.86 seconds, while the Oberlin relay team won the 4x800 meter in 8 minutes, 23.72 seconds.
