Merger explained

Wednesday, July 23, 2003

Dear Editor,

There has been so much controversy over the Republican Twin Valley Schools merger and lawsuit that many of the patrons do not have a clue what is going on. I called several people today, and not one person could tell me. I'll try to explain.

First of all, the merger and the lawsuit are two different things.

According to the State Department of Education, the two school districts are merged and have been since May 9. The old district numbers are dissolved -- they are one district -- and the new district number is 0179.

They are merged whether they get the bonds for the new school or whether they don't.

They are known as the Republican Twin Valley School until the school kids change the name if they want to.

The new appointed school board will take over Aug. 1. This information (merger) has been sent to the Red willow County Clerk and to all the county clerks of all counties associated with this merger. It is public information and can be seen by anyone who asks to see it.

The lawsuit has not taken place. Judge Battershell overruled the motion to dismiss. That court hearing has not been set yet.

Joyce Remington,

Danbury
