True patriot

Thursday, July 31, 2003

Dear Editor, Our country has lost a true patriot -- Bob Hope. I hope you will all take the time to say a prayer and thank God for all the love and laughter and Hope that Bob gave to us here at home and to our servicemen and women all over the world.

My dad was so happy to see Bob's USO show during World War II on Guam and Japan; my brother saw Bob's show aboard a Navy carrier off the Vietnam coast; my uncle David saw Bob Hope while serving in Korea; my ex-husband saw Bob at Fort Campbell, Ky., and in Guam, and my cousin's husband even saw Bob Hope's show while serving in Desert Storm.

Bob Hope's gift of clean, good laughter is what all comedians should base their acts on.

I believe all Americans owe the Hope family our deepest thanks for sharing Bob. And, to you, Bob:

"Thanks for the Memories!"

Sincerely,

Donna R. Merklin
