Larson, Potthoff first at Grand Island

GRAND ISLAND -- McCook's Connor Larson and Adam Potthoff won their divisions at the Grand Island Junior Tennis Open Saturday and Sunday.

In the boys 12 and under singles division, Larson defeated Kearney's Brandon Shundoff 6-3, 6-2 in the first round.

In the semifinals, he defeated Kearney's Peter Messbarger 6-3, 6-2. He defeated top-seeded Luke Burkey 6-3, 7-6 in the championship.

In boys 18 and under singles, McCook's Adam Potthoff defeated Grand Island's Alex Tipton 6-0, 6-1 and Lincoln's Jerall Smith 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.

In the finals, Potthoff defeated Lincoln's Eric Tesmer 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

McCook's Jordan Bass lost to Tesmer 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. In boys 14 and under doubles, McCook's Larson and Asher Brooks defeated Lincoln's Drew Bartek and Kearney's Jensen Foss 6-2, 6-1 in the first round.

In the semis, they lost to Lincoln's Tyler Ferguson and Ben Stokke 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.

Former McCook player Ross Friehe teamed up with Lincoln's Luke Burkey to win the 14 and under doubles consolation title.
