McCook girls rout Wray for third at Topside Tourney
(High School Sports ~ 12/15/25)
GOODLAND, Kan. — The McCook High girls won two of three to take third among eight teams at last weekend's Topside Tournament with comments from coach Amy Scheil about her 2-2 Bison. More will be included in Tuesday's edition of the Gazette. "Our girls played really good defense this weekend and overall did a good job rebounding. Against Goodland we gave them too many second shots but against Wray and Burlington we rebounded as a team really well. Against Burlington, Cali dominated the boards pulling down 14 rebounds along with her nine points. Against Wray Jaylea Walgren filled up the stat sheet by pulling down 6 rebound, 14 points and 2 assist. While Brecken Gale played exception defense all weekend having 4 steals against Wray while Alice lit it up against Burlington with 14 points, 6 steals and Wray 16 points. Against Wray we had three people in double figures in scoring Cali with 15, Jaylea with 14 points and Alice with 16 points. We did a nice job distributing the ball to the open girls. We got 3rd place overall which was one of our highest finishes against a very good good side of the bracket. We need to continue to work on our turnovers but the girls are improving each game and I'm very pleased with their effort and teamwork.". ...
