CRETE, Neb. — It was already a happy Homecoming when the McCook Bison bus departed Crete Friday evening. Because once again, the Bison showed how to take a punch and come back dancing like true title contenders. “I’m proud of the guys. We kind of took it on the chin last week and we own that,” coach Joe Vetrovsky said following McCook’s 42-3 conquering of Crete. “But we did better this week than we have all season. We got back to some things we’re going to lean on all season.”...

Kenneth Mark Shobe was born March 24, 1950, in Denver, Colorado, to parents Roy and Ann Wagner Shobe, Jr. He died on September 21, 2025, very peacefully in his home at the age of 75. At the age of six, the family moved to Oberlin KS, where Kenny spent his childhood and where he always called “home”. He was a graduate of Decatur Community High School with the class of 1968, Kansas State University, and the University of Southern California...

Daniel Wyman Osborn, 70, of Mullen, Nebraska, died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025. He died from heart issues doing what he loved, going for an early morning jog with his two German shepherds. Dan was born on July 31, 1955, in McCook, Nebraska, to Charles and Geraldine Osborn. He was the youngest of three, with brothers Kenneth and Floyd Martin...

Steven “Steve” Lynn Sines reunited with his wife, Deborah, in heaven on September 6, 2025, after passing in his home in McCook, NE, at the age of 73. Steve was born to parents John C. and Lois M. (McNiell) Sines in McCook, NE on April 28, 1952. He grew up in McCook with his brothers Michael and Gary. In his younger years, Steve was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed hanging out with his brothers. Steve graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1970...

McCOOK, Neb. - The message went out from an entity called “Indivisible,” which describes itself as a nonprofit organization that “drives coordinated campaigns” to “defeat the rightwing takeover of American government.” The message read, in part, “Many Nebraskans feel that the unlawful round-ups and detentions of immigrants by ICE are inconsistent with Nebraskan values.” The invitation then specified, “Come protest the creation of this detention center in McCook on September 20th at 1:00 p.m.”...
