Tiara Schmidt of McCook takes aim at a pitch during girls high school softball action last fall at the Jaycees Sports Complex in McCook. Schmidt, a senior, enters her final prep softball season as one of the top returning players for the Lady Bison. The first baseman had a .987 fielding percentage last season to help McCook qualify for the Class B state tournament. Little acts of kindness. People are good. Recently Grannie Annie was driving through the mail dropoff at the McCook Post Office. Low car, short arms and the letter dropped on the ground. With a bum hip Grannie struggled to open the door and reach for it. Out of nowhere a slim young lady appeared, offered condolences and fetched the letter off the pavement for her. Cheerfully the angel commented that she had the same problem herself and that it was okay...

McCOOK, Neb. -- By 5 to 1, the McCook Board of Education voted to ditch paper agendas and documents and conduct their meetings electronically, with one board member unconvinced it was the best use of district dollars. Two unidentifiable black cars target Larry Steinbeck of McCook, Nebraska, during the first qualifying heat of welded cars in the Decatur County Fair demolition derby Friday evening on the fairgrounds in Oberlin, Kansas.
