Red Willow Western rural firefighters extinguish a fire at Centennial Pork, on Highway 83 north of McCook, where the exterior of one building was scorched when a power line shorted and started a fire just before noon Friday. Conventional wisdom says we shouldn't live in the past. We shouldn't hold on to things we don't have anymore. Let bygones be bygones. Get on with your life. Yesterday's memories are today's heartaches and heartbreaks. The list of clichés goes on and on. I don't believe any of them and I'll tell you why...

Perhaps nothing in our society is more important than marriage, and few issues have drawn more passion from the voters. In virtually every state where they have had the chance to decide, voters have chosen overwhelmingly to reaffirm marriage as a union between one man and one woman...
