**Dear Editor, The third time may be a charm, but not when it comes to goofs. We've had two, the Air Base $1,200,000 folly and the $250,000 environmental fine ... let's avoid the third by canning the idea of swapping the McCook Safety Center for East Ward and building a new $2,000,000 to $4,000,000 monument to higher taxes...

New city transfer station going up

In close to a month the City of McCook will be operating out of a new transfer station. The facility, next to the current transfer station southeast of Wal-Mart, has all of the concrete work and large beams support beams in place. "It's fun watching the progress over there," said Rick Province, waste superintendent of the transfer station. "It's a pretty efficient crew of guys." The building is being erected by JL Construction and W Design is serving as the engineering firm...

McCook to host state high school muzzleloader shoot

The first-ever Nebraska High School Muzzleloader Rifle Championship will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 24, 25 and 26 at the Pawnee Free Trappers Club range west of McCook. The competition is open to all school-age hunter-education graduates from 11 through 19 years old. Hunter safety cards will be checked...
