Consultants recommend building jail

The consultants hired to study Red Willow County's prisoner housing needs recommend that the county build its own jail, rather than continue to transport prisoners to jails outside the county. Mark Martin and Gary Bowker of Allied Correctional Services told members of the county's jail task force, in a written report they presented Tuesday evening, they recommend a 30-bed facility "that can serve as an investment in the long-term public safety interests of all of Red Willow County."...

That's the project price tag, in 2005 dollars, of an extensive recreational trail, planned to stretch 13 miles around McCook and take a couple of decades to complete...
