HASTINGS -- The McCook Bison football team clinched a Class B state playoff berth with a 24-6 victory at Hastings Friday night. The Bison, the defending Class B state champions, improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in District 5. McCook extended its winning streak to 21 straight games...

McCook was the envy of the state of Nebraska in 1960 because of its outstanding YMCA At that time McCook was the smallest city in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Wyoming that had a Young Men's Christian Association facility. The membership had tripled since 1957 and stood at 690 youths, 220 adults plus 100 short-term members. McCook had larger memberships than did Beatrice, Grand Island, Scottsbluff or Hastings. Columbus had put up a new Y in 1959 for about $700,000 and had only 377 members...
