I really enjoyed "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark Levin which is a conservative manifesto.

"In Heaven As On Earth" by M Scott Peck is about Heaven. It reads like science fiction, but is pretty accurate biblically. He is much better known for "the Road Less Traveled".

"The Road" by Cormack McCarthy was made into a movie that was released last year. while the movie generally followed the book story line, the book is great in a terrible way. McCarthy also wrote "No Country for Old Men" which was also made into a movie several years ago. The books are nothing alike.

I am reading "Anthem" by Ayn Rand right now and it is nothing like her more famous "Atlas Shrugged" and "Fountainhead" books. It is a pleasant surprise.

Those books are pretty heavy reading, and over the past year, for pure pleasure reading, I read about half of John Sandford's Prey series books.

They all have Prey in the title, and he is consistently great. Every book is a page turner that you cannot put down. The characters are funny, believable, and some are terrifying.

  • Thanks, Boomer62! It's funny you mention Ayn Rand, because my husband is currently reading Atlas Shrugged. That one looks like it would take me about two months to read, but he recommended We The Living. I'm thinking that will be my pick for the R's. My brother-in-law loaned me The Road, but I'm not sure if I'm emotionally up for that one. Sounds like a heart-breaker. We'll see how I feel when I get to the M's. Almost finished with Kenneth Bock's Healing the New Childhood Epidemics. Great book!
