SoapboxPosted Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 6:25 AM
At a former job, I had to get on my soapbox on occasion - well - admittedly a lot. I even had a supervisor give me an empty soap box as a 'funny' Christmas gift one year. Yeah.... not funny. However in contemplating a blog title and topic, I had blogger's block. I decided to drag out the soapbox for a bit of random commentary in an effort to clear the blockage.
Healthcare reform - my only comment this week is that the only ones making any money are the advertising firms putting together ad campaigns for the various 'interest' groups. It is almost as annoying as a political campaign. I would surmise those advertising folks who live off commission are hoping this goes on until the political cycle kicks back in.
When I need a pick me up because it was a bad day I find myself using the mouse to click to YouTube. Not usual because there are some funny videos but I find myself going back to the British Has Got Talent Video when Susan Boyle surprised Simon Cowell. She has a gorgeous voice but she 'got' Simon. Plus it is a good illustration of the old adage 'don't judge a book by its cover.' I sincerely hope she is able to capitalize financially and be comfortable for the rest of her life. Plus I hope she keeps on singing.
Tiger Woods, David Letterman, Gov. Sanford. The old story of power, money and sex just will NOT go away and it won't ever go away because these stories sell advertising copy, creates titillating headlines, and allows the jokes to go viral on the internet. What are these guys thinking? Obviously, they don't and they don't care for anything but their own self satisfaction. I truly feel sorry for their kids. The spouses have some sympathy but were these wives clueless? However I think these guys did a greater disservice to their kids. Shame on them and shame on the other women who knew these guys were married. I hope Santa puts a big lump of coal in their stockings this year since they can't ever make that up to the kids.
Banking... hmmmm.... big bonuses.... okay seriously... We - the taxpayers - were forced to bailout the big mega banks with the tax dollars because if we didn't everything would have crashed. The various media outlets are reporting this past week, there are big bonuses to be paid out to executives this bonus season.(I have been out of the news loop for a couple of days - do if this is outdated - sorry.) But I need to have a moment of outrage. Not a one of those execs had to answer the phone or wait on angry customers every day in their bank's teller lines or drive thru windows when everything was going south. The front line folks deserve the bonuses not the ones hiding in the big fancy dance offices waiting for the financial storm to roll through. True - there may be some good folks in the exec branch that really had to fix things but the amount of bonus money that was reportedly going to be paid out was 20 BILLION. Plus I don't see my interest rates going down at all. Outrageous.
That is it for the laundry list of random commentary in a effort to wash away the blogger's block. Have a great week everyone.
