McCOOK, Neb. — Marietta “Jean” Hoelscher, age 87, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Jean was born on the family farm in Wilsonville, Nebraska, on July 26, 1938 to parents, Cecil Thompson and Mary Etta (Stizel) Miner. She grew up with five brothers on the family farm and attended Wilsonville All Girls Academy.

Jean was introduced to George “Joe” C. Hoelscher Jr. on a blind date arranged by her brother, Melvin. The two quickly fell in love and were united in marriage on March 5, 1954, in Beaver City, Nebraska. Together, Jean and Joe shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, before Joe’s passing in 2010. They two raised five children, worked side by side and created countless cherished memories while enjoying life’s many blessings together.

In Jean’s professional life, she was a factory worker for TRW building computer chips for 23 years, and then at Parker Hose Plant for 12 years.

In her free time, Jean was an avid button collector, amassing thousands of unique and treasured buttons over the years. She was a dedicated member of the Decatur County National Button Society and faithfully attended the annual button sale in Manhattan, Kansas, for many years. Jean also had a special fondness for swans and proudly displayed a cherished collection of swan figurines and keepsakes in a hutch filled with her beloved treasures.

Jean will be remembered for being a devoted wife and mother, a hard worker, and a kind person.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, George “Joe” Hoelscher; children, George C. Hoelscher Jr. and Barabra Jo Nelson; and brothers, Melvin, Ivan, Wayne, and Paul Miner.

Those left to celebrate Jean’s life are her children, Beverlee Smith of Tucson, Arizona, Jeff Hoelscher of Alaska, and Donna Hoelscher of Indianola, Nebraska; brother, Ervin (Bonnie) Miner of Indianapolis, Indiana; seven grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Suite 105, Lilburn, GA 30047.

A private family inurnment will occur at a later date.
