CULBERTSON, Neb. - Arlan Earl Rathe, age 87, of Culbertson, Neb. passed away on Sat., Sept., 9, 2023 at Community Hospital in McCook.
Arlan was born April 7, 1936 in Culbertson, Neb. to parents Albert E and Ella M (Alberts) Rathe. He was one of three children who later graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1953.
On Oct. 6, 1957, Arlan married the love of his life, Beverly Ann (Schlager) Rathe in Culbertson, Neb. To this union, five children were born.
Arlan was a lifelong farmer who also enjoyed wood and leather working, square dancing and playing cards, especially pinochle. He took great pride in his family and his farm where he was especially fond of his animals. Arlan served as the District #23 School Board President for a number of years and was also active in St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer.
Arlan was preceded in death by his parents; and his two sisters, Gladys Skinner and Florence Potthoff.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Beverly Rathe of McCook, Neb.; children, Robin Haynes of McCook, Neb., Ryan (Deb) Rathe of Palisade, Neb., Rhonda (Tracey) Refior of McCook, Neb., Rachelle Steinhour of Minden, Neb. and Randal (Erin) Rathe of Ainsworth, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren with two on the way; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members and friends.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the McCook Humane Society, PO Box 13, McCook, NE 69001.
Visitation with family present to greet friends will be held from 5 to7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Culbertson, with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating.
Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery.
