Pool committee meeting with construction manager

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Pool Committee will meet with the engineer and construction manager to work out details for a construction contract for a new pool.

Andy Smith, an engineer with Lamp Rynearson, the engineering firm the city is working with, will contact pool committee members for a joint meeting with the construction manager, said McCook City Manager Nate Schneider in his update of the pool and ball park projects at the regular city council meeting Monday night.

Pool committee members, along with the engineer, will develop a contract with Carrothers Construction Company, L.L.C., that guarantees a maximum price for a pool. The contract will then be forwarded to the city council for approval, Schneider said.

He also told the council that the city will know by the end of the month if it received a grant from Nebraska’s Civic and Community Center Financing Fund (CCCFF). Those grants can be used to build and/or improve community facilities such as libraries, recreation and wellness centers, gathering spaces, convention centers, town squares, and cultural centers. A CCCFF grant cannot account for more than 50% of a project’s total costs. The minimum local cost-share is 1:1. A total of $562,000 will be awarded to municipalities less than 10,000.

For the ballpark, Schneider said a meeting will be scheduled with the McCook Community College Foundation to identify what funds are available for “ancillary items,” such as water infrastructure to the ballpark.

He also updated the council on a recent meeting of the Parks Advisory Board, where a group of individuals spoke about new playground equipment at Kelley Park. Schneider did not name who the group was but said they are will be fundraising for new, inclusive playground equipment that will replace the current playground structures at Kelley Park.
