Jerry (Glen Gerald) Proud

BARTLEY, Neb. — Jerry (Glen Gerald) Proud age 85, passed away at his home south of Bartley on Sept. 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and wife.

Jerry was born to Glen and Vesta (Richie) Proud on Nov. 24, 1936, at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook, Neb. Jerry attended and graduated from Bartley High School in 1955. Jerry left for the Navy the day after graduation where he served four years. He was honorably discharged on May 23, 1963.

Jerry started a job as a countertop and carpet installer in Cheyenne, Wyo. He worked in Minot, N.D., as a welder and later as a mechanic in Imperial, Neb. Jerry moved back to Bartley and began farming for Roy and Margaret Hayes.

On Aug. 4, 1960, Jerry was united in marriage to Murietta Hayes and to this union three sons were born, Robert (Kurt), Larry (Kent) and Kris. Jerry and Murietta adopted two girls, Karen and Gail, adding to the family.

Jerry enjoyed flying RC (radio-controlled) airplanes, welding, and old car shows. He was a member of the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and served on the Bartley Rural Fire Board

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Hubbert; grandson, Morgan Hubbert; parents, Glen (Dutch) and Vesta Proud; parents-in law, Roy and Margaret Hayes; and brother, Jim Proud.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Murietta; sons, Kurt (Michelle) Proud, Kent (Jenifer) Proud and Kris (Melissa)Proud; daughter, Karen (Tom) Mohr; son-in-law, Kenny Hubbert, Mary Proud; 25 grandchildren: 13 great-grandchildren and family friends, Gina and Stacy Donnoe.

Funeral services will be at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Rosary will be recited prior to Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Lutheran Cemetery south of Bartley.

Visitation is today until 6 p.m. at Lockenour Jones Mortuary in Cambridge

Military Honors will performed by the U.S. Naval Honors detail and the William Wright American Legion Post of Bartley.
