Maintaining access to water

Thursday, August 4, 2022

INDIANOLA, Neb. — On July 25, we got about .35 inches of rain and I had marked on my calendar that we also got .25 on the 24th of June. Needless to say, a half-inch in one month’s time must mean we aren’t living right, or as the world evolves naturally over centuries, that’s just the way it’s going to be.

I’m not saying we don’t have climate change, but as North America was at one time glacier-covered, I also think that it’s just a natural phenomenon that occurs over time. I continue to hope that the drought doesn’t linger on for years as it will throw a wrench in our farming/ranching plans, but I also don’t agree that anything leftist liberals have planned will help the situation.

Naturally, water control is going to be a concern in the years ahead so allowing foreign countries to buy land in the United States seems like a no-brainer. I’m sure there are those that stand to benefit from such transactions, but as a whole, states should maintain control over who owns property. If one entity is allowed to restrict our access to water, we are all going to be in trouble.

There are those that think the government should pay for expenses like healthcare, education, and money just for being alive. I tend to think we should lean toward “what we can do for our country — not what it owes us”! Probably if more people felt this way, folks would be going back to work.

Here on our farm, we never have to worry about being bored or not having anything to do. Usually, there are not enough hours in the day to get things done. One could say it might make a person age faster, working so hard, but I think we each make our own happiness. A comment said early on in our marriage was: “That’s just sheer laziness!” We often say that to each other or about others when we feel the person is not a hard enough worker! Hence, working is high on our list of priorities. Just ask our kids! HaHa!

Have a good one!
