Buffalo Commons warm up

Bruce Crosby/McCook Gazette

Professional storytellers Kevin Kling, center left, and Shonto Begay were in fine form for a Buffalo Commons Storytelling and Music Festival warm-up Thursday night at the Bieroc Cafe, but they had nothing on local storytelling stalwart John Hubert, top left, who brought back memories and perhaps a few tears with a poem about festival founders, as well as laughs about his experience shopping for a talking dog named Gabby. Cal Siegfried, top right, answered everyone’s questions about why he decided to become a cowboy (hint, it had to do with a frozen hog-farm “honey wagon”). Joining in were songstress Ginger ten Bensel, center right, and, above, from left, retired radio man and persistent storyteller Craig Larson, Buffalo Commons founders Linda Crandall, Mary Dueland and Sharon Bohling, who presented Master Storyteller awards to Gazette Editor Bruce Crosby for his help publicizing the festival over its 25 years of existence, as well as Kevin Kling, who had to cancel a previous Buffalo Commons booking because of the pandemic.
