ARAPAHOE, Neb. — The old “how you finish” sports adage came into play right away at Arapahoe Thursday night.

A super tight season opener featured just one point of separation until Overton’s 15-5 fourth quarter finished the 47-36 win over those host Arapahoe Warriors.

Sophomore Sabrina Jacobsen hit her second three-pointer late to finish with a team-high 13 points for Arapahoe (0-1).

Junior Emerson added seven while senoir Tracy Roskop, junior Gentry Warner and sophomore Berkley Warner each slipped five points through the home nets.

Yet the Eagles (1-0) took charge behind some late shooting from senior Maeli Meier, who scored a game-high 14. Sophoore Jolee Ryan added nine and led a strong Overton defensive effort.

The Eagles only allowed nine Warrior baskets with four being from three-point range.

Roskop’s four steals were another Warrior highlight.

Senior Grant Taylor’s 14 points topped an Arapahoe opener where coach John Strand said ‘we otherwise kind of struggled” Thursday night.

The Eagles (1-0) delivered a three-pronged attack of senoir Caleb Svavari’s 22 points and 14 from classmate Wyatt Ryan.

Senior Tyler Miller added seven points for Arapahoe with seniors Ander Wasenius, Tyler Miller and Colton Carlson totaling four apiece.

Taylor did hit three of four shots from three-point distance and pulled in nine rebounds.
