McCOOK, Neb. — A heat-shortened Bison Invite didn’t stop three McCook High girls from medaling on Thursday at Heritage Hills Golf Course.

Junior Samantha Rodewald reached the top five again (15:05.37) again after winning last year’s full-length across all those rising obstacles.

Sophomore Sienna Dutton placed eventh overall while continuing a Bison duo that has already finished 1-2 at two races this season.

Junior Shawna Wilkinson showed a state track champion’s determination and earned 14th place overall. McCook finished fourth despite senior Grace Cappel not running this race due to an injury.

“I was pleased with the way we competed yesterday. We had some great competition yesterday on a hot and windy day making the back nine of Heritage Hills even more difficult,” Bison coach Tom Sughroue stated. “We would have loved to run the whole 5K but we would rather error on the side of caution. Running in that kind of heat can really cause some issues for runners.”
