Wesley Spickelmier

IMPERIAL, Neb. — Wesley C. Spickelmier was born July 15, 1942, in McCook, Neb., to June (Kannow) and Lester W. Spickelmier. Wes grew up in the McCook area and graduated from Red Willow High School in 1960.

In 1961, Wes married Ilene Troester at the Ash Creek Church in McCook. The couple first settled in Colorado Springs, Colo., where they lived for 10 years before moving to Imperial in 1971.

Wes was first employed as a drywall contractor before beginning a 30-year farming career. He also drove the mail truck for 12 years and later worked on a ranch, retiring in 2019. Wes obtained his private pilot’s license while living in Colorado Springs and he thoroughly enjoyed anything relating to flying. Wes especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Wes passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at his home in Imperial. He was 79 years of age.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and June Spickelmier; and his in-laws, Carl and Marie Troester.

Survivors include his wife, Ilene of Imperial; son, Doug Spickelmier and Lisa Mosher of Broken Bow, Neb.; daughter, Lori Rowley and husband, Tom of Imperial; son, Wayne Spickelmier and wife, Stannette of Faith, S.D.; six grandchildren, Amanda (Gary) Knehans of Imperial, Megan (Dan) Marshall of Lincoln, Neb., Brandon (Julie) Spickelmier of Wauneta, Neb., Miles (Kayla) Spickelmier of Buffalo, S.D., Trevor (Mallory) Rowley of Hot Springs, S.D., and Ty (Jayla) Spickelmier of Faith, S.D.; 10 great-grandchildren, Braelyn and Cole Marshall of Lincoln, Braxton and Adler Chubb of Imperial, Charlee and Waycee Spickelmier of Wauneta, Hazen and Krece Spickelmier of Buffalo, S.D., and Katie and Adeline Rowley of Hot Springs, S.D.; brother, Sheldon Spickelmier of Curtis, Neb.; sisters, Janet Grenier and husband, Ray of Valparaiso, Ind., and Linda Gardner and husband, Kim of Johnstown, Colo.; and brother-in-law, Dennis Troester of Indianola, Neb.

Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, 10 a.m. (MT), at Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial with Pastor David Kahle officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.

No visitation, cremation was chosen.

A memorial has been suggested in Wes’s memory to the Spickelmier family for a future designation.
