LUBBOCK, Texas – The McCook Community College golf team jumped a couple spots Tuesday in the second round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Golf Championship. The Indians were 19 shots better on Tuesday than on Monday and go from 24th to 22nd in the team standings.

“There were much tougher conditions today, wet, cold, and windy and we struggled a lot on our first nine but played very well the second nine to shoot 316,” said MCC Coach Tyler Loop. “So we were 19 strokes better than yesterday when we had good weather.”

MCC moved past Estrella Mountain (Avondale, Ariz.) and Central Wyoming on the team leaderboard. After the Indians shot a 335 on Monday, their 316 has them five strokes ahead of Estrela Mountain and 28 shots better than Region IX foe Central Wyoming – a team that struggled Tuesday with a round of 347.

“I am really proud of their fight today, especially after starting the way they did,” Loop said. “We were 27 over on the front, and just one over on the back nine.”

Kojie Santos, sophomore (Melbourne, Australia) was five-over through the first nine holes and one over on the back nine. Filip Lanc', freshman, (Czech Republic) shot a 6-over on the front nine and came back to shoot the back nine at even par. Both golfers finished with 78s on the day.

Santos has the low two-day score with a 158. He is tied for 77th place. Lanc’ is six shots back of his teammate after Tuesday.

KC Carlson (sophomore, Delta, Colo.) was one shot from the team best for the Tuesday round with a 79. That was eight strokes better than Monday. He has a carded a 166 halfway through the tournament.
