Wolves miss shot at Irish in tough state loss

LINCOLN, Neb. — Unusual 10-for-23 shooting at the free-throw lone doomed Maywood-Hayes Center's comeback attempts during a 42-31 loss to Falls City Sacred Heart in their D-2 state quarterfinal Wednesday afternoon.

The Wolves (24-3 final record) fell behind 10-3, closed within 20-16 by halftime, then saw FCSH unleashed another huge 10-1 run to regain their 31-17 lead.

M-HC battled butt never got closer than seven points again. Senior Jaycee Widener scored 19 points for her final high school game while sophomore Ashlin Broz added six and junior Stevie Handsaker five points.

Senior Jaycee Widener turned to find two defenders in her way and was called traveling during Maywood-Hayes Center's tough Wednesday at the Class D-2 state tournament. Widener scored a game-high 19 points but the Wolves fell to Falls City Sacred Heart, 42-31, at Lincoln North Star High School.
