Kevin Jon Blackman

Jan. 16, 1974 - Feb. 25, 2021

BARTLEY, Neb. — The family of Kevin Blackman is saddened to announce his passing at age of 47.

He was born at a whopping 10 pounds, 6 ounces in Omaha, Neb., to Carol (Stritt) Blackman and Gene Blackman. He had a four-year-old brother, Greg to welcome him home.

Kevin began school in Fort Collins, Colo., and later moved to Palisade, Colo., where he lived with his dad and attended Palisade High School. After graduation, he found his niche as a bartender, serving in restaurants in Colorado and later at the Rocket Inn in Indianola. Kevin’s personality was a good fit for this profession as he had a quick wit, hilarious sense of humor, and he could converse about anything to anyone.

Kevin met Amber Hancock in 1994 in Grand Junction. In 2001, they were blessed with a loving son, Victor. Kevin moved to Indianola to be closer to family and was later joined by his son who was with him until his death. Kevin and Victor spent time fishing, playing video games, watching Rockies and Bronco games, and just being together.

Kevin enjoyed photography, wildlife, poker, target shooting, pool, and he was an excellent cook. Kevin’s most admirable quality was his kind heart as was seen in his love for animals, especially his dogs, Rowdy and Abby. He was a loyal friend to many and always ready to help others when needed. His last noble effort to help others came as the result of registering as an organ donor.

He was preceded in death by his brother and closest friend, Greg; his grandparents, Victor and Leoma Blackman, Clarence Stritt, and Tomi Fjelseth.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Victor; parents, Carol (Stritt) Blackman (Dave Fjelseth), Gene Blackman; grandmother, Alyce Mae Stritt; nieces, Jordan, Breann, and great-niece, Marlee; step-sisters, Sarah Joseph (Lijo) and Tia Knapp; step-brothers, Erik and Marcus Wagner; step-nieces and nephews, Rohan, Karuna, Mariah, and Max and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A very special family in Kevin’s life was Dave, Sharon, and Andrew Reynolds.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service with family and friends will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 2 p.m.

Memorials may be given in his name and will be designated at a later date. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.
