Walter V. “Vernon” Orman

HAYES CENTER, Neb. — Walter V. “Vernon” Orman, 83, of Hayes Center, died Oct. 14, 2020, at Gothenburg Health. He was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Maywood, Neb., to Walter and Helen (Lennox) Orman.

Vernon graduated from Curtis Ag High School and worked various jobs, eventually working at University Experimental Station in North Platte where he met Virginia Marlin. They were married Sept. 20, 1959, in North Platte. The couple lived on the family farm in Hayes County for awhile before renting their own places. To this union, two children were born, Jackie and Sheri. They farmed and ranched until 2004, when they moved to Hayes Center and Vernon worked for the Department of Roads for 26 years. He was also a field reporter and retired from that in 2003.

Vernon was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church and was a trustee and elder in the church. He belonged to Wheat Growers, Nebraska Cattleman and was on the Co-Op board in Hayes Center.

Vernon never knew a stranger and had a strong love for his family. He had a tender heart, mostly in his older years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Hayes Center; two daughters, Jackie (Dan) Loomis of Maywood and Sheri (Mike “Harley”) Hamilton of Hayes Center; grandchildren, April (James) Carroll of Hayes Center, Anthony (Kitty) Loomis of Maywood, Amanda (Jason) Cox of Hayes Center, Jack II (Sara) Loomis of Hayes Center, Logan (Nikki) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Wacey (Christy) Hamilton of Hayes Center, Monica Hamilton of Hayes Center, and Dakota Hamilton of Hayes Center; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Evonne Klein.

Services were Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Reverend Lonnie Felcher officiating. Burial followed at Maywood Cemetery.

Visitation was Oct. 20, 2020, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. The service was live-streamed on Adams & Swanson Facebook page.
