Richard Lewis Hoff

Feb. 25, 1941-July 23, 2020

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. — Richard Lewis Hoff went to Heaven to be with his cherished bride of 54 years, Susan Kay Hoff, on July 23. He had been in assisted living after breaking his femur in April and never fully recovered from his injury.

Richard leaves behind his two sons, Tim and Mike, and their families. Tim and his wife, Cindy, live in Farr West, Utah, and have a daughter, Rebekah, and a son, Ian. Mike and his wife, Leah, reside in Battle Ground, Wash., where they have a blended family of seven kids. Mike has two daughters, Hannah and Madison, while Leah has five children.

Richard was born to Henry and Lucille Hoff and raised in McCook, Neb., He graduated with the Class of 1959. While in school he enjoyed playing football, throwing the shot and discus, and working on his uncle’s farm. McCook is also where he met the woman of his dreams, Susan Ball.  Richard and Susan married in April 1961, while Susan was finishing her senior year of high school. This, of course, was against her mother’s wishes but the outcome was 54 years of being together. They made their home in Fullerton, Calif.

Richard, who went by Dick, was talented in many areas of work. He spent 18 years in aerospace where he learned engineering, welding, and became a computer programmer when computers took up several offices to hold its 64 megabytes! He then spent nine years running his own business, a bicycle shop, where he split the duties with his boys. After the bike shop closed, he became the manager of facilities for a retirement community of the rich and famous. While there he befriended many famous folks who appreciated his sense of humor and his passion for keeping everything running smoothly. His favorite celebrity was the voice of Tony the Tiger, with whom he talked daily.

When Susan passed away in November of 2015, Mike moved Dick to Washington to be near family. The following four and a half years were filled with projects with Mike, trips to Home Depot to shop all the new tools, and time talking about Susan. His apartment walls were covered with photos of him and his bride enjoying their journeys of life together. Everyone he came across got to hear about his beautiful bride and about how wonderful she was and how much he missed her.

Now Dick and Susan get to spend eternity together in happiness.
