McCOOK, Neb. — Less than one week after the end of the McCook Community College volleyball season ended, Coach Hayley Kobza signed her first player for the 2020 season.

On Friday, Gibbon High School senior Kaylee Palmieri signed her letter of intent to play for the Lady Indians.

Palmieri, a 5-7 setter, was named to the 2019 Louplatte all-conference team and was a 2018 honorable mention -- playing for Coaches Lonna Pickel and Connie Kenton. Gibbon went 9-20 this year.

“I picked MCC because McCook is a small town just like mine and the environment is very welcoming,” she said. “I am also very passionate about volleyball so being able to play some more is an amazing experience.”

This year she played in 69 sets and had 248 assists and 214 digs.

In her four years of varsity competition she played in 278 sets and had 551 assists, 85 service aces, 569 digs, 318 kills and 88 total blocks.

Palmieri is also a three-time all-Louplatte Conference athlete for the Buffaloes in track where she has been named all-conference in three events; 800 meter in 2017; the 3200 meter relay in 2018, and the long jump this year.

When asked what her favorite quite is she said, “You can’t control the situation, but you can control your reaction.”

As far as role models, she said she doesn’t really limit herself to focusing on one person or player, particularly when it comes to volleyball.

“I love watching and following players that have different qualities that make them amazing,” she said.

She plans to pursue a degree in radiology.

The Indians earned 25 wins during this past season, winning another conference title and advancing in Region IX play.
