Thomas P. “Tom” Patterson

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Thomas P. “Tom” Patterson of Cambridge lost his 15-month battle with colorectal cancer at home surrounded by family, on Aug. 16, 2019. He fought a long, hard, and courageous battle.

Tom was born Oct. 12, 1964, to Roy and Phyliss Patterson in Cambridge. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1983. He graduated from Wesleyan College and later the University of Nebraska Law School.

On Sept. 28, 1991, he married Cathy Nelson in Marshfield, Wis. To this union four children were born, Jessica, Mallory, Erin and Thatcher. The couple has made their home in Cambridge. Tom was elected Furnas County Attorney and has served in that position for the last 25 years. He was also the Cambridge City Attorney and represented Twin Valley Rural Electric Company for many years.

Tom and the family traveled to many different destinations throughout the U.S., Disney being one of the favorites. He also enjoyed golf, history, politics, Huskers and his children and grandchildren. Tom especially enjoyed watching his son participate in trap shooting and other events.

Tom was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge, a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree of Cambridge and 4th Degree of McCook.

Tom was blessed with two awesome grandchildren, Tinley and Brextan Honeymann, who were the light of his life. They both loved to visit and take care of their “Papa Tom.” They loved singing and dancing to keep him entertained.

Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Tim; his dad, Roy; and paternal and maternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy; three daughters, Jessica and husband, Toby Honeyman, Mallory and Richard Ehrman, Erin and Alec May; son, Thatcher; two grandchildren, Tinley and Brextan; mother, Phyliss; mother- and father-in-law, Mary K. and Jerry Nelson; sister/brother-in-laws, Pat and Patti, Deb and Jim, Dan, Colleen and Jay, Theresa and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019, at 7 p.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at 10 a.m., with Father Ken Wehrs officiating.

Friends may leave online condolences at lockenour.com. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials may be addressed to the Cambridge Senior Center, McCook Community Hospital Hospice or the Cambridge Trap Shooting Club. Casket will be closed before moving to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial.
