Lincoln’s already sending out alerts:

Beware of boys from Benkelman, Stratton and all others running on Dundy County-Stratton’s football field.

These boys are dangerous. A threat to perhaps anyone who encounters them during the Class D-1 football season.

The Lincoln Journal-Star confirmed this warning today with Dundy County-Stratton “as a team to watch” for football fans all fall.

“Eight starters are back, including tight end-linebacker Dominic Sis, who had 156 tackles last season and caught five touchdown passes,” the Journal-Star proclaimed in today’s D-1 football preview. “A 1,000-yard rusher in Quade Myers; and a pair of standout linemen in juniors Delton Haines and Keegan Krutsinger.”

That’s not even close to mentioning all the Tigers who tore up D-1 playoff brackets last fall with huge wins over South Loup, 20-14 in overtime; and 30-29 vs. talented area foe Cambridge.

Super Serbando Diaz’s on the DC-S roster after rushing for 1,938 yards and 28 touchdowns as a sophomore.

It was Diaz who tore through the favored South Platte Knights to gain 222 yards and two touchdowns in that huge playoff road win.

Diaz averaged 193.8 yards per game since he missed a win at Hitchcock County due to an injury.

The 5’8” 160-pound powder keg’s 28 TDs are second only to quarterback Myers’ amazing freshman season featuring 29 touchdowns (19 rushing, 10 passing).

Plus don’t forget sophomore Bobby Schneider (nearly 12 yards per rush), Sis or senior Lane Shillington. They’re already returning to a Tiger team that surged into the Class D-1 quarterfinals before losing to North Central on a blustery November night in Bassett.

Defense really made DC-S a playoff force for all those who remember the dramatic overtime goal-line stands against South Loup.

Many of those top tacklers return along with Sis, Krutsinger and Haines.

So yes, Lincoln is not overreacting to take notice of the danger building momentum in Benkelman.

Coach Mike Spargo’s Tigers make their season debut on Friday, Aug. 31 at home against Perkins County. Watch for more details about area teams.
