McCook girls repeat as Nebraska state champs!

These six McCook Junior High eighth-graders captured a second consecutive state title at the Nebraska Championship Meet in Gothenburg on Saturday.

GOTHENBURG, Neb. — McCook Junior High’s girls delivered an amazing clutch performance with 42 points to repeat as Nebraska Championship track-and-field team winners Saturday.

The Bison won a fantastic team chase with Fremont, 42-40, while setting three new school records along with a Nebraska state record.

According to available information, no girls’ relay had ran 400 meters faster than when Abby Boner, Xyanthia Bair, Kennedy Walter and Shawna Wilkinson finished this race in 52.03 seconds.

They barely edged Fremont (52.1) for more crucial points in clinching another team title.

Wilkinson went on to a school record 58.8 seconds which won the 400-meter state title. Her other record was a 26.82 200 meters that placed second behind only Zakeirah Johnson of Concordia.
