WICHITA, Kan. — Bonnie Annette Johnson, 71, passed away on April 14, 2019, surrounded by family at her home in Wichita.

She was born in Sutherland, Neb., on Aug. 9, 1947. Bonnie, the daughter of Bessie and Alva Carl Pickel, grew up on a farm southwest of Sutherland. When she was seven, her father passed away. She grew up with her step-brother, Donald Knotts, and step-sister, Evelyn Staudemier.

Bonnie married Sylvester Gallington and raised three boys, Art, Cliff, and Dave in Parks, Neb. Bonnie spent a stellar career in the United States Post Office, starting as a clerk, and moving up to Postmaster at Bartley, Neb., and later at Trenton, Neb. She was editor of the State of Nebraska NAPUS newspaper.

Bonnie divorced and later married Jay W. Johnson on Feb. 3, 1993, in Albuquerque, N.M. Bonnie and Jay operated an aviation service until 1999, when they moved to Wichita. Bonnie’s passions were gardening, cooking, piano, and quilting. She loved to cook a big meal and have family and friends over to enjoy it.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Johnson; his son, Travis (Amanda) Johnson of Wright City, Mo., and her three sons, Art Gallington and wife, Melody of Benkelman, Neb., Cliff and Wendy Gallington and granddaughter, Courtney, of Topeka, Kan., and Dave Gallington of Kearney, Neb., and his children, Andy, Emily and grandson, Drew.

Graveside service is 2 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Sutherland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Sutherland, Neb., Cemetery, P.O. Box 485, Sutherland, NE 69165.Share tributes online at: www.dlwichita.com
