Red Cross blood drive will honor McCook boy
EDITOR's NOTE: The blood drive honoring Calvin has been postponed until June, but the regular blood drive will be conducted as scheduled next week.
McCOOK, Neb. — Like lots of nine-year-old kids, Calvin Corbett loves swimming and plays many sports. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to do much of either since being diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that forms in the soft tissues, in June 2018.
During his treatment, he has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, and has needed several blood product transfusions.
To help patients like Calvin, the entire McCook community is invited to donate blood at the upcoming blood drive in his name.
“We really want to express our thanks to everyone in the community for donating,” said Calvin’s mother, Tiffany Corbett. “We never realized how many blood transfusions Calvin would need. We are so grateful.”
The blood drive will be 12:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds Community Building, 1412 W. Fifth in McCook.
To make an appointment to donate at the drive in honor of Calvin, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
