McCOOK, Neb. — New faces have only meant the Cambridge girls are at that same old place every Trojan fan loves to see.

Cambridge (15-7 record) will play for another subdistrict championship after surprising D1-10 No. 2-seed Hitchcock County, 46-34, Tuesday evening.

The Trojans avenged a season-opening defeat while earning their third opportunity against No. 1-seed Dundy County-Stratton Thursday at Graffs Events Center.

“How we played in that RPAC final was really a springboard I think for the rest of our season,” coach Jared Albers said as DC-S edged the Trojans in that title game last month.

“We’ve had a lot of fresh faces and had a lot of developing to do,” he added during a post-game radio interview. “I was really happy that we got the ball where we wanted to offensively tonight.”

Junior Korynn Clason tallied another super 27 points while handling most shots as always.

However, forward Chloe Craig also stepped up to score 10 key points for Cambridge.

“That was great to see,” Albers confirmed.

Senior Rylee Cross and junior Cali Gunderson were among other Trojans that hit clutch shots.

Cambridge got one more point than Albers believes will add up to a victory most nights.

“If we score 45 points, I usually like our chances,” he said. “I was really impressed what we were able to do defensively tonight.”

The Trojans held Hitchcock (18-4) to only 15 points before halftime.

Senior Kyleigh Scott scored eight of her 11 points in the third but Cambridge never lost control of this crucial playoff win.
