Edward Lee Bass

McCOOK, Neb. — Edward Lee Bass of McCook passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Community Hospital. He was 84 years old.

Ed was born at Fairfax, Okla., on June 21, 1934, to parents, Chauncie Fenton and Flossie Jane (Montgomery) Bass. The family eventually moved to Sterling, Colo., where Ed graduated from Sterling High School in 1953.

Ed served in the U.S. Army for two years. Following his honorable discharge, he met the love of his life at the Blue Bird Café in Sterling, where his future wife was working. He was united in marriage to Inez Marie Tadolini on Oct. 16, 1960. They made their home in Sterling until 1962, at which time they moved to the Culbertson community. In 1966, they moved to McCook. Ed worked in the oil fields all of his working years, retiring from Marathon Oil Company. However, after his retirement he continued to work for Burton Well Service.

Ed was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook Eagle’s and Elks Lodge. He served as County Commissioner for Red Willow County District 3. His passion was hunting, mostly pheasants, fishing, snake hunting, and golf. He was an Oklahoma Sooner fan which caused him a lot of ribbing from family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Chauncie and Flossie Bass; his beloved wife of 58 years, Inez Bass on Oct. 14, 2018; and two brothers, Jack Bass and CL Bass.

Survivors include his son, Randy (Joan) Bass of Culbertson and their three daughters, Katherine “Katie” Bass (Dave Malnar) and their children, Parker and Reece of Lincoln, Courtney (Emery) Quint and their children, Autumn, Alexis, and Austin, and Margaret “Maggie” (Scott) Repass, all of McCook; son, Larry “Red” Bass of McCook and his son, Jordan (Robin) Bass and their children, Julian and Charlotte of Lawrence, Kan.; sister, Geraldine Lambrecht of Shreveport, La.; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, 9 a.m. until time of Rosary, which will be recited at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
